Alice Lloyd College

How to Apply

We Are Alice LloydWelcome to the Admissions Office at Alice Lloyd College, a place where we work to fulfill the College’s mission of finding and educating leaders for Appalachia. We’re glad that you’re considering joining our Eagle family! Should you choose to apply, we will be here to serve you along the way. We will do everything we can to help make the transition to college a smooth one for you, to answer all of your questions, and to guide you through the exciting process of becoming a part of ALC’s unique history and tradition.

After you have successfully submitted the application for admission, you will want to scroll down this page for further instructions. Find the admission process timeline that applies to you and follow the stages carefully!

International student applicants undergo a separate admission process. Please click here for more instructions.

We invite you to explore our website and discover why Alice Lloyd College is the right choice for you.

Alice Lloyd College has an excellent financial aid and scholarship program. Qualifying students from our 108-county service area receive our Appalachian Leaders College (ALC) Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition. In addition, other scholarships, grants, and financial aid opportunities may be available to apply toward other costs.

You will also need to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Be sure to list ALC (housing code 001951) on your FAFSA so that we can electronically obtain the data we need to award any potential financial aid.

Admission Process and Interview

If you want to attend Alice Lloyd College, please pay close attention to each stage in the Admission Process. Admission to Alice Lloyd College is highly competitive. ALC is one of the most selective colleges in the country, admitting only 10.2% of applicants. There are a limited number of spaces available in each entering class, so it is imperative that you submit your application by July 1st (for the fall semester) or November 1st (for the spring semester). Students may apply for admission to ALC by these deadline dates during their high school years, but cannot be evaluated until the completion of their junior year of high school. We STRONGLY advise you to begin the admission process as early as you can in order to avoid waiting lists. Applicants whose entire application process (including the interview and the submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is completed by these deadlines will earn priority consideration. Receiving priority consideration does not guarantee admission, but it is the best way to ensure that the admission process is finished in a timely manner. Each application for admission is evaluated on an individual basis. The Admissions Office will keep students informed of the progress of their applications and will notify them promptly of action taken.

If students have questions about their admissions status, they should contact the Admissions Office.

We appreciate your interest in Alice Lloyd College! Admissions Interview

Who conducts the interview?

The Director of Admissions and/or Admissions Counselors will interview the student. The director and counselors are highly active in the student recruitment process and frequently travel to various high schools and college fairs. All of them are graduates of Alice Lloyd and are very knowledgeable about what it takes to succeed at ALC.

Prospective student-athletes are also interviewed by coaches.

Who is interviewed?

Students are interviewed individually. While parents are certainly welcome to accompany their son or daughter on their visit to campus, we would prefer that they don’t sit-in on the interview. If, however, a parent does involve themselves in the interview, we ask that they do not dominate the conversation. The admissions interview is designed to put the spotlight on the prospective student. Parents are free to ask questions at any other time.

Does the Admissions Office conduct phone interviews?

No. The interview must be done in-person.

Does the interview process include a campus tour?

Yes, the interview and a tour of campus can both be scheduled on the same day. You must contact the Admissions Office to schedule your interview and campus visit. We ask that you inform Admissions about your intent to tour campus so that they can tailor the visit to your individual interests and needs.

Is there a dress code for the interview?

The Admissions Office does not require students to dress professionally for the interview; however, we do ask that you dress in good taste. Please consult The Student Handbook (pg. 13) for tips on appropriate dress.

What type of information is assessed during the interview?

Alice Lloyd College seeks students who demonstrate characteristics such as good academic performance, leadership ability, participation in school activities, strong desire to learn and service to others. Our Admissions Department strives to find students who possess these characteristics so that our faculty and staff can help each student become successful in every aspect of his/her life.

When may I schedule an interview?

After you have been notified by mail that you have been conditionally accepted, contact the Admissions Office as soon as possible. It is important to schedule your interview at your earliest convenience. Since admission to Alice Lloyd College is very competitive, early admissions status is highly recommended.

How should I prepare for the interview?

The most important thing is to be yourself! Come prepared to talk about your experiences and to share any and all information that will help us get to know you. Make sure you are familiar with the mission of the College, its history, and all of our policies and student expectations, which you can find on our website and in the College’s Program Catalog and Student Handbook. Since the College is actively seeking future leaders of Appalachia, we encourage you to conduct yourself in a respectable and professional manner.

If you are admitted …

On receipt of a Letter of Acceptance from the Director of Admissions, students must submit the following within 30 days:

  •  completed medical form,
  •  completed housing form,
  •  $50 deposit (non-refundable), if a dormitory room is to be reserved, or $50 commuter deposit (non-refundable) for non-resident students.

Forms and instructions for the acceptance requirements are provided at the time of admission.
