ALC COMPUTER CENTER FACT SHEET

Internet Access

Student Dormitory Rooms are equipped with two Network Data Ports for accessing the campus Local Area Network (LAN). Any student bringing a computer to campus needs to have a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) installed in the computer. Most new computers come with a NIC, but you should make sure. If not already installed, the NIC can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, and most computer stores. They are also available at our campus bookstore. A Category 5e (CAT5) cable is also required to connect from the computer to the wall port, and is available at the same stores. The computer center will provide assistance to students needing help connecting to the network.

Telephone Access

Each Student Dormitory Room is equipped with one analog phone jack. Students must supply their own phones. Voice Mail is provided by the College, and campus announcements are made via voice mail. Long distance is available through ECCI (they will have a booth during registration), or students may use over-the-counter calling cards of their choice.

T.V. Service

Each Student Dormitory Room is equipped with one television cable connection. Local cable programming is provided (60 channels including ALC’s closed circuit Channel 70 for campus information and announcements).

The technology center consists of a walk-in computer laboratory for ALC students, which is open approximately 75 hours per week. The computer lab is used for scheduled classes where faculty members make use of the technology. The lab features state of the art computers, the latest software, laser printers for output, and have Internet access. Computers run Windows XP Pro, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint), and McAfee Virus Scan. Lab hours are posted on the door and communicated to faculty and staff.
