Alice Lloyd College

Leadership Education Program

Alice Lloyd College … because leadership isn’t just a concept, it’s a way of life.

ALC Business DressAlice Lloyd College provides a comprehensive leadership development program for its students. This program focuses upon leadership philosophy, citizenship, and cultural development. The College attempts to infuse leadership education initiatives into all aspects of the educational experience, including formal classroom instruction, activities that help students learn to cope with cultures outside of Appalachia, group learning activities, involvement in service to others, opportunities to question their moral, ethical, and religious positions, and activities that place them in leadership roles.

Academics, Student Services, and the Student Work Program have combined resources to create a formal leadership development program with the specific mission of preparing leaders to serve Appalachia. Alice Lloyd College’s liberal arts education prepares students to lead responsible, productive and creative lives in a dramatically changing world. The bachelor’s degree is designed to meet the challenges of life-long learning, namely the continuous development of skills, knowledge and understanding that are essential for employability and leadership.

  • Historically, Alice Lloyd College has been committed to not only meeting the educational needs of those living in our region, but also in helping to meet social needs through various community outreach programs.
  • The Freshman Transition Program, also known as the “Bridge Program,” serves to provide a successful transition from high school to college. Students are eligible for institutional credit and a Leadership Certificate when they become upperclassmen.
  • The Student Work Program promotes responsibility and self-discipline, important foundations upon which character and leadership skills are built.
  • The required Leadership Education class provides students with a fundamental understanding of leadership and opportunities to develop leadership abilities.
  • Full-time faculty live on campus at Alice Lloyd College to promote ethical and moral living.
  • Alice Lloyd College provides students the opportunity to develop leadership skills through the Voices of Appalachia choir, athletics, the Theatre Program, mission trip opportunities through Baptist Collegiate Ministries, the Washington Center Program, intramural sports, community service and continuing education.
