Dual Degree in Nursing

Alice Lloyd College Natural Science and Mathematics Division

Curriculum Guide Sheet (pdf)

Course Descriptions

The Bachelor of Science Dual Degree in Nursing at Alice Lloyd is designed to prepare students for a professional degree in nursing. Students who complete the Nursing major would spend three years at ALC to complete the 98-hour program before transferring to an accredited school of nursing to finish the B.S.N. degree. The student would transfer 30 hours of credit back to ALC to complete the Dual Degree in Nursing before completing the B.S.N. degree at another institution. Rules regarding this program would not allow a student in this program to transfer more than 24 hours to ALC in addition to the 30 hours of credit transferred back to ALC once a student has completed the work at an accredited nursing school. This would help to ensure that 58% (74 hours) of the 128 hour Dual Degree in Nursing would be taken at ALC.

Two similar pre-nursing programs exist at private colleges within Kentucky. Asbury University and Georgetown College have programs very similar to the Dual Degree in Nursing major at ALC.

Alice Lloyd College has reached an agreement with the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, guaranteeing admission to two qualified ALC pre-nursing graduates each fall. In August 2013, Alice Lloyd began a partnership with Eastern Kentucky University that will send ten well-qualified ALC students to the university to study in its highly-competitive baccalaureate nursing program. In this intensive program of study, students will earn both a degree in pre-nursing from Alice Lloyd and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from EKU. The College is currently attempting to establish similar relationships with other nursing schools in Kentucky and Tennessee.

Dual Degree in Nursing Major Requirements

Students should become familiar with the requirements for their individual programs and work with their advisors to ensure that all degree requirements will be met. A guide sheet is extremely helpful in academic planning. Students wishing to seek the Dual Degree in Nursing can access a downloadable version (pdf) of the guide sheet at the top of this page, or he or she may obtain one from his or her Faculty Advisor or from the Registrar. The student has the ultimate responsibility for seeing that all academic requirements are being met.
