Berea, KY: The Alice Lloyd Eagles baseball traveled to Berea for a two-game showdown with the Mountaineers on April 16th. Below is a recap.

April 6
Game 1
ALC – 8 | BC – 17

The hosts scored 10 runs in the first two innings to take the opening game victory.

ALC got off on the right note when a Chance Cornett double quickly scored the game’s first run.

Berea looked solid from the opening pitch as they roared out of the gates with 3 runs in the first and 7 more in the second.  The big second was helped by a couple of errors.

The Eagles looked to reduce the deficit in the fourth when Cornett and Peyton Buford both blasted solo home-runs. Later when Luis Carillo drove in another run with a double, the score read 10-4.

Unfortunately, BC would earn those runs back one inning later on the strength of their own moon shot (13-4).

Alice Lloyd tried once more for a comeback as they plated 4 runs in the sixth on the strength of a Dalton Cornett double and a Garret Gay homer (13-8).

However, Berea responded in their next at-bat with 4 runs of their own, and the visitors were unable to get any closer.

Chance Cornett and Carillo led the way as each finished 3-4. The squad also added 4 doubles and 3 home runs.  Unfortunately, 4 errors proved hard to overcome.

Meanwhile, on the mound, pitcher Jacob Banks started and suffered the defeat.

ALC was outhit 15-10.

Game 2
ALC – 3 | BC – 4

The Eagles took the lead going into the bottom of the seventh only to watch Berea storm back with 2 runs to earn the come-from-behind victory.

After BC took a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat, the visitors would earn 2 runs back in the second when Peyton Buford and Alex White both homered (2-1).

The score remained unchanged until the fifth when BC squeaked a runner in to tie the score at 2-2.

Alice Lloyd would then respond in the seventh. When Dalton Cornett smacked a triple, it drove in a run to give his club the advantage (3-2). The question, was could the Eagles hold their slim lead?

Disappointingly Berea would receive a couple of clutch singles and score 2 runs to earn the walk-off win.

On the day, in addition to the blasts from Buford and White, Dalton Cornett came up big as he finished 3-4 with a triple and RBI. Juan Lander added 2 hits and an RBI.

Isaac Stephens was handed the loss on the hill for Alice Lloyd.

The Eagles finished with 11 hits to Berea’s 6.
