Williamsburg, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams, coached by Brandon Arnold, traveled to Williamsburg, Kentucky, to compete in the University of the Cumberlands’ Invitational & Distance Carnival. The competitive event took place April 12th -13th.

In women’s action, several of the Lady Eagles won their heats, which helped earn points for their team.  The relay squads stood out as the 4×100, 4×400, and 4×800 relay teams all placed high and won points.  The Lady Eagles’ 4×100 team of Hannah Bryant, Shauntae Miller, Shelby Davis, and Erin Jackson placed 6th overall and won three points with a time of 54.76 seconds.  The women’s 4×400 team, consisting of Brittney Buttrey, Shelby Davis, Shauntae Miller, and Erin Jackson placed 7th overall and won three points for their squad with a time of 4:40.79.  The 4×800 team of Brittney Buttrey, Morgan Arthur, Rachel McCoy, and Brooke Vanover had a big 3rd place finish with a time of 11:13.27 that won a team-high 6 points.

Also standing out were the Lady Eagles 1500 meter runners, Brooke Vanover, Morgan Arthur, and Rachel McCoy. Vanover won her heat of the 1500 with a time of 5:42.10 and was followed very closely by Arthur, who placed second in the heat with a time of 5:45.77.  McCoy competed in a separate section but had a similar time to her teammates with a run of 5:46.75.  The three were very close, with only a couple of seconds separating their finish times.

In men’s action, several athletes won their heats and helped win points for the Eagles.  In the 1500-meter race, Ryan Morris competed in this event for the first time and won his heat with a time of 4:28.47.  Freshman Richard Cornett competed for the first time in the long jump and won flight 1 of the long jump event with an impressive leap of 6.12 meters, or 20’1”.

The Eagles’ relay teams really stood out as well at this meet, as the 4×100, 4×400, and 4×800 teams all placed and won points.  The Eagles’ 4×100 team, consisting of runners Silas Stambaugh, Richard Cornett, Dakota Owens, and John Driskill, placed 6th and earned 3 points with a time of 44.93 seconds.  The 4×400 team of Dakota Owens, Richard Cornett, Joshua Adkins, and Alex Lewis won their heat with a time of 3:35.26, placing 8th overall and earning the Men’s team one point.  The 4×800 team of Ryan Morris, Joshua Adkins, Ty Reagan, and Alex Lewis had a good race.  They placed 4th overall with a time of 9:03.30 to win their squad five points.

ALC also entered runners in the 3000-meter Steeplechase for the first time this season.  Freshmen, Ty Reagan and Jacob Bush, had a very competitive run, finishing seconds apart with times of 11:54.45 and 11:56.86.

With the inaugural season winding down, the Eagles and Lady Eagles will next travel to IU East in Richmond, Indiana to compete in the River States Conference Championship on April 25th and 26th.
