Jada Estep

Midway, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team journeyed to central Kentucky on March 20th to face the home standing Midway Lady Eagles in a softball doubleheader. Following are recaps of each contest.

GAME 1
MU – 11 | Alice Lloyd – 3

The hosts came from behind to win the opener

ALC started well as they produced 3 runs in the second inning.

First, Mckenzie Brewer and Madison Gaines both singled. Later, after Alexis Napier loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice, Jada Estep cleared them with a long triple down the right-field line.

The hosts would answer with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the third to knot the score up at 3-3. They were helped by 4 errors and 2 hits. They would use 3 hits one inning later to produce 2 more runs and lead 5-2.

Unfortunately, MU would break the game open in the fourth inning with 5 more hits that led to 4 runs.

For ALC, Estep and Madison Gaines each had 2 hits while Estep had 3 RBI’s.

Haley Howell and Mercedez Gilliam were on the mound for Alice Lloyd. Combined, they allowed just 5 earned runs. Unfortunately, the Eagles hurt themselves immensely with a season-high 8 errors.

The hosts won the hitting battle, 13-6. 

GAME 2
MU – 9 | Alice Lloyd – 4

 The home team grabbed an early lead then managed to fight off a comeback attempt from the visitors.

Midway jumped out of the gates quickly as they produced 1 run in the second inning.

However, in the third, they exploded for 7 runs on 7 hits, with the big blows being a home-run and triple.

Trailing 8-0, Alice Lloyd began to chip away at the deficit, as they scored 1 run in each of the next three innings.

In the fourth, Samantha Sturgill drove in a run. One inning later, Alyssa Clark did the same thing. In the sixth, it was Lydia McIntosh’s turn to do the honors.

In the seventh, the guests would make things interesting as Estep opened with a triple and scored on a single by Abby Stambaugh. Unfortunately, the rally would end with a runner stranded at second base.

Estep and Clark both had 2 hits to lead the way.

On the mound, Howell opened things up and was relieved by Gilliam and Brewer.

MU outhit Alice Lloyd 13-9. The Eagles would leave 8 runners stranded on base.
