Mount Vernon, GA – The Alice Lloyd Eagles came through in the clutch to defeat Brewton-Parker College 76-67. The road contest was played Tuesday afternoon.

In the opening half, despite 10 points from leading scorer Blake Smith, the host team took control of the tempo to their liking. Neither team led by more than three points the entire half. Due to this, BP was able to score late, and inch their way into a 27-25 halftime advantage.

In the second half, backed by improved shooting, the Eagles rolled off o 17-10 run in the first five minutes to sprint ahead, 42-35. The hosts would rally, however, and keep the game close. Eventually, Brewton-Parker would lead 63-60 with 4:05 remaining and appeared poised to take the win. However, at this critical moment, the Eagles responded in a big way.

First, senior guard Ryan House would drain a jumper. Then, after junior forward Chance Cornett and sophomore guard Ian Lee combined for five more crucial points, House would end the flurry by bagging a three-point bomb. When the dust had settled, Alice Lloyd led 70-63. They would then go a perfect 6-6 in the final .40 seconds to seal the deal.

For ALC (6-8), Smith paved the way with 24 points. The junior guard added 7 rebounds to tie senior forward Simon Christon for high honors. House was just behind with 16 points and led with 3 steals. Cornett chipped in with 10 points while Lee and sophomore guard Noah Young contributed 8 points apiece. Young dished off 8 assists.

The victorious club connected on 42.6% (23-54) from the field and 36.4% (12-3) from long range. From the foul line, they hit 66.7% but came through in the clutch. They also had 30 rebounds, 8 steals, and 15 assists.

BP (1-10) was led by Treyvon Deloach with points. His club shot 43.5% (23-65) from the field and just 13.6% (3-22) from the charity stripe. They also had 31 rebounds, 6 steals, and 9 assists.

The Eagles return to action after the Christmas break on Thursday, January 3rd, when they join the Lady Eagles in hosting Ohio Christian University in River States Conference action at 7:30 pm.
