The Eagles Men’s golf team played in their final event of the fall semester, the Hiwassee Fall Invitational at Oak Ridge Country Club in Oak Ridge, TN. Oak Ridge Country Club is a real gem, one of the best courses we have played. The forecast was foreboding, but the actual weather was perfect golfing weather. The hospitality of the club was fantastic and Hiwassee College did a great job running the event.

Eagles golfers struggled the first round. Team captain junior Aaron Minor shot 78 to place 12th. Sophomore Reece Ison shot an 81 to stand 19th. Junior Brit Bowling shot 83 for 22nd place and sophomore Isaiah Penley shot an 89 to stand in 28th place. Team score for the first round was 331, good for 4th of 5. Eagles golfers played much better in the second round. Aaron Minor continued his consistently good play with a 77 for a total of 155, good for 11th overall. Reece Ison shot a 75 to finish at 156 and 12th place. Brit Bowling shot 82 the second round for a 165 total and 22nd place. Isaiah Penley shot 83 the second round for a 172 total good for 26th place. Freshmen Matthew Henson and Hayden Halbert showed they have the game to be excellent college golfers. Both need to groove that quality swing and string together more good shots but the game is there in both of them. The team score for the second round was 317 for a total of 648, 4th of 5 teams. Results are listed here.

Losing two quality seniors from last year made this fall look like a time for rebuilding for the team, however ALC shot their best ever team score of 308 this fall, and with Aaron Minor winning 3 trophies, including an all-region trophy for the Mideast Region of the NCCAA, and Reece Ison winning 2 trophies, it’s been the Eagles best semester ever.

The spring schedule begins with Point University’s Skyhawk Invitational at Callaway Gardens Golf Course in Pine Mountain Georgia on March 11 – 12,  2019.
