Milligan College, TN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles opened the 2018-19 season on the road against a tough and experienced Milligan College Lady Buffalo squad. When the dust had settled, the hosts had earned the 89-77 victory.
In the opening quarter, MC jumped out to a 20-13 lead before Lady Eagle sophomore forward Alex Clifton scored the final 4 points to shrink the score to 22-19 after ten minutes of action.
In the second stanza, Alice Lloyd freshman guard Hannah Kash pumped in 10 points in the period to keep things close, but Milligan rode the play of fine forward Sarah Robinson to slowly extend their advantage. The visitors trailed 46-37 at intermission.
As the third period began, the Lady Buffaloes stampeded out of the locker room on a 19-6 burst, and they would lead 65-43 at the 3:48 mark. The Lady Eagles would chip away at the deficit, but they still trailed 70-55 entering the final stanza.
The last period would see Milligan maintain their advantage, as they refused to allow their foe to get any closer than 12 points the remainder of the night.
For the victors (1-0), four players reached double figures. Robinson led the way with 28 points and 8 rebounds.
ALC (0-1) was led by Kash with 17 points. Surprisingly, she was the only Lady Eagle to reach double figures. Clifton and junior guard Katie Moore each added 9 points while senior center Emilee Harrell and sophomore guard Haley Hall both chipped in with 8 apiece. Sophomore forward Makalya Akers led the squad with 4 rebounds while junior forward Jayla Spurlock joined Kash with 2 assists. Hall had 3 steals.
Alice Lloyd finished shooting just 37.5% (21-56) from the field and 23.1% (6-26) from deep while connecting on 80.6% (29-36) from the foul line. They also added 28 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals.
CCU finished shooting 45.7% (32-70) from the floor and 21.1% (4-19) from behind the arc. They shot 80.8% (21-26) from the foul line. They also added 49 big rebounds, 18 assists, and 11 steals
Alice Lloyd plays their next game on Friday, November 9th when they travel to Welch (TN) to join the Eagles in a doubleheader with the hometown Welch College Flames. The women’s time is set for 5:30 and the men start at 7:30.
