New Albany, IN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles traveled to New Albany, Indiana on November 27 to face the dangerous Indiana University Southeast Lady Grenadiers in a season-opening River States Conference West Division showdown. ALC led the first three quarters, but went cold in the fourth and fell 81-69.

In the first period, the Lady Eagles got off to an impressive start. Defensively, they were able to force the Grenadiers into 7 miscues, and they converted those into points. The visitors would lead 24-15 after ten minutes of action.

The hosts would settle down in the second stanza as both clubs looked solid. Sparked by 12 first-half points from center Emilie Harrell, ALC would see their lead reach its zenith at eleven (46-35), and the guests would enter intermission leading 46-40.

The Lady Grenadiers opened the third quarter on a 9-2 run to take their first lead (49-42). The Lady Eagles managed to scrap their way back in front and would enter the final quarter with a slim 61-60 cushion.

In the final period, Alice Lloyd would take their final lead (68-67) at 6:47 when sophomore guard Haley Hall bagged a jumper. That would be the last field goal the guests would score. Southeast outscored their foes 14-1 the remainder of the night to pull ahead for the victory.

For the victors (5-1; 1-0 RSC), Ariana Sandefur led the way with 17 points. IUS shot 47.5% (28-59) from the floor, 43.8 % (7-16) from long range, and 85.7% (18-21) from the charity stripe. Critically, her club also held Alice Lloyd to 3-17 shooting in the final quarter. They snagged 35 rebounds and had 15 assists and 8 steals.

For the ladies from Caney Creek (2-3; 0-1 RSC), Harrell and Hall led the squad with 15 and 14 points respectively while Harrell led with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Junior guard Katie Moore and freshman guard Hanna Kash both added 9 points and 3 steals. Senior guard Courtney Vasquez handed off 3 assists to lead in that department.

ALC shot 40.8% (29-71) from the floor, just 16 % (4-25) from long range, and 70% (7-10) from the charity stripe. They grabbed 40 rebounds and had 14 assists and 8 steals.

The Lady Eagles return home on Saturday, December 1st for a big conference matchup with the Brescia University Lady Bearcats. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
