Pippa Passes, KYWhat a difference two days make. Due to the fate of scheduling, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles and the Hiwassee Lady Tigers would play twice in a 3 day period.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles had traveled to Hiwassee where they put up a close battle before succumbing, 73-65. After an off day, Coach John Mills’ cagers learned a big lesson because they looked nothing like the team that tasted defeat earlier. ALC made a stunning 48 point turnaround in that short period of time and defeated the previously unbeaten Hiwassee Lady Tigers 107-67 on Monday night.

In the opening quarter, the score was tied at 2-2 before the hosts exploded. First, the Lady Eagles would proceed to go on an 18-4 run to quickly lead 20-6 at the five-minute mark. ALC was not finished, however. They knocked down five long-range bombs before the horn sounded and closed the period on a staggering 18-4 run. When the smoke had cleared, they led 38-10.

In the second stanza, the home club would continue to delight their fans with pin-point shooting. Despite playing hard, the Lady Tigers could not get their shots to drop. As a result of sinking 56% of their attempts compared to just 21% for the visitors, the Lady Eagles would hold a 60-22 advantage at intermission.

As the third period began, HC scrapped to cut into the lead and were able to get it below 30. However, ALC scored late to maintain their cushion at 77-47.

The last period would see more of the same as Hiwassee was unable to close the gap and the Lady Eagles continued their solid play to seal the deal in an impressive performance.

For the victors (2-2), freshman guard Hannah Kash tossed in 17 points and led the way with 3 bombs and 2 steals. Junior guard Katie Moore played a solid all-around game as she finished with 16 points and reached a double-double by snagging 11 rebounds. She almost got a triple-double as she dished out a game-high 8 assists as well. Sophomore guard Haley Hall chipped in with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Additionally, the interior game produced big numbers as senior center Emilie Harrell, along with sophomore forward Alex Clifton, both had 10 points. Senior guard Courtney Vasquez and sophomore guard Ali May each drained 2 trifectas and added 8 and 7 points to the cause. In all, twelve Lady Eagles dented the scorebook and eight of them connected on at least one three-point bucket.

The Lady Tigers (6-1) were led by J’Lynn Majors with her game-high 18 points.

Alice Lloyd finished shooting 52.9% (36-68) from the field and 42.8% (15-35) from deep while connecting on 71.4% (20-28) from the foul line. They also added 46 rebounds, 26 assists, and 5 steals.

HC finished shooting 31.8% (21-66) from the floor and 12.5% (2-16) from behind the arc. They shot 71.9% (23-32) from the foul line. They also added 29 rebounds, 2 assists, and 12 steals

Alice Lloyd plays an exhibition game on Tuesday against Morehead State University today. Their next regular season contest is next Tuesday, November 27th in a big conference matchup with Indiana University Southeast. Tip-off for the doubleheader is set for 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm. They then return home on Saturday, December 1 for another conference doubleheader matchup with Brescia University at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
