PIPPA PASSES, KY. – Alice Lloyd College students, along with their various campus organizations, brought an abundance of smiles to hundreds of area children this Halloween as they hosted the ninth annual “Trunk-or-Treat” across campus.
ALC’s Dean of Students and head baseball coach, Scott Cornett, helped organize the festivities. “Our goal each year in planning this is to get all of our student groups, clubs, organizations, and athletes, involved in a community project. We also wanted to give our young men and women the opportunity to give a little something back to the region that has been so supportive of us. This year was the biggest crowd we have seen, so we know it is working.”
Groups of college students set up displays across campus and loaded their trunks full of tasty treats for each trick-or-treater. Many of the clubs and organizations selected elaborate themes for their display. When the children came by, the college students took time to talk with each child and comment on their costumes. Children even challenged costumed members of the cross country squad to races for extra treats.
Gary D. Stepp, ALC’s Director of Athletics, added, “I am always extremely pleased with the response from our college students, who love this as much, if not more, than the children themselves. It is encouraging to see how well our student-athletes embrace the “Champions of Character” philosophy, and they always go above and beyond what we expect. We love providing this for the community and I believe the hundreds that showed up attest to the fact that it is both worthwhile and appreciated”.
Janet Johnson, who helps coordinate the event, brought her grandson, Talan, and spoke highly of the night. “Trunk-or-Treat was a great a time for all of the kids. It is nice to come to a clean, family-oriented environment that is both fun and safe for my grandson. I really appreciated the college students taking time to interact personally with the children and they definitely kept them entertained with all of the activities they provided.”
