Knoxville, TN: On September 31st, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team journeyed to Crown College for their first road game of the season. They followed that up the next day by traveling to Nashville to face Boyce College and Welch College in a tri-match. Below are recaps of the three contests.

ALC earned their first win of the young season in an exciting match. In the opening game, the two squads battled before the hosts pulled away down the stretch to win 25-23. The Eagles looked solid in game 2 and earned a 25-21 victory and then would take game 3 by an identical score. In the Game 4 clincher, the Lady Eagles would dominate as they rolled to the big 25-13 victory.

On the day for the hosts, junior Samantha Sturgill led the squad with 9 kills while junior Haley Smith paved the way with 7 digs and 10 aces. Freshman Sarah Howard led in the assists category as she handed out 9. Junior Lindsey Perkins added 5 kills and 6 aces.

Boyce College

ALC avenged a loss to Boyce from a week earlier as they played solid volleyball. In the opening game, the two squads stayed close before ALC sprinted away with a flurry to win 25-15. Boyce was ready in game 2 and earned a 25-18 decision. The Eagles rebounded in a well-played game 3 match and earned the 25-18 win. In game 4, the squads would battle tooth-and-nail before ALC pulled away down the stretch to win 25-21.

On the day for the victors, freshman Sarah Howard would pave the way with 6 kills, 7 assists, and 4 aces while junior Lindsey Perkins led the way with 11 digs and 5 aces. Junior Samantha Sturgill led in the assists category as she handed out 8.

Alice Lloyd would jump out to a 2-0 advantage before fatigue set in and they lost a 5 set heartbreaker. ALC roared out of the gates in game 1 and quickly took the opener 25-20. They would then earn the win in set 2, 25-18. The third game was close, but the Flames held on for the 25-21 win. Game 4 was all Welch as they won 25-9. The fifth set tie-breaker was a battle, but the hosts pulled away late to cap the big comeback.

On the day for the victors, freshman Sarah Howard would pave the way with 6 kills, 6 digs, and 6 assists while junior Lindsey Perkins led the way with 7 kills.11 digs and 5 aces. Junior Haley Smith led with 6 assists and 3 aces.

ALC (2-3) returns to action Tuesday when they host Appalachia Bible College at 6:00 pm.
