Winchester, KY: The Alice Lloyd women’s and men’s cross country team traveled to Winchester, Kentucky, on Tuesday, September 18th to compete in the Run for the Water Barrel Meet held at Lykins Park. The weather was exceptionally nice but hot for both races.

A total of 27 women’s runners and 25 men’s runner’s representing four colleges comprised the field for the 5K (3.1 mile) women’s race and 8K (5 mile) men’s race.

In the women’s meet, the Lady Eagles and Midway University each placed three runners in the top six before MU prevailed in a battle.  The solid showing earned the Lady Eagles a second place finish as they came out ahead of Asbury University.

For the event, the Lady Eagles were led by junior Kacey Trout who completed the course with a solid time of 22:49 which was good enough for 3rd place.  Senior Brittney Buttrey and junior Rachel McCoy crossed the finish just behind in 4th and 6th position with times of 22:56 and 23:36 respectively. Sophomore Morgan Arthur (25:55- 16th) and freshman Brooke Vanover (26:19- 18th) were the next two ALC runners to cross the line.

Freshman Larah Watson (27:08), senior Cheyenne Boggs (27:52) and freshman Abigail Webb (28:57) gave a good effort as well.

In the men’s event, the Eagles ran a spirited race against Asbury University, Midway University, and Kentucky Christian University and garnered a well-earned, second place finish.

For the meet, the Eagles were paced by junior Ryan Morris, who crossed the line in 2nd position with a solid, season-best time of 29:32.  The freshmen trio of Alex Lewis, Ty Reagan, and Jacob Bush showed signs of good things to come as they crossed the line in 32:16, 32:53, and 33:01 respectively, which was good enough for 9th, 11th, and 12th positions. Junior Noah Stephenson broke the tape in 33:42 to finish 14th.

Junior Dustin Blair (37:15), sophomore Kevin Keathley (39:16) and senior Zach Templeton (32:31) pushed hard till the very end.

By virtue of their solid team placement, the entire men’s and women’s squad have now qualified for the NCCAA National Cross Country Meet which will be held in Point Lookout, Missouri in early November.

The next meet will be this Saturday, September 22nd. Both squads will race at Rio Grande (OH) in the Patty Forgey Invitational. The race begins at 12:30 pm.
