Dr. Dale Henry

On September 11th, Alice Lloyd College held the Opening Convocation for the 2018 fall semester. President Joe Stepp spoke to the students, faculty, and staff on the progress and future plans of construction on campus. The current completed updates are five new classroom additions, a pedway, and the completion of phase one of the campus center. With all these projects coming to a pristine completion, the students, faculty, and staff are excited to see what the future holds, as President Stepp summarizes future projects such as new street lights and two new women dormitories. President Stepp commented on the updates by saying, “We have truly been blessed.”

Following the President’s opening remarks was motivational speaker Dr. Dale Henry. He grew up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. After earning a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Secondary Education, he went on to complete his Ph. D. in 1991 with a concentration in the area of Adult and Continuing Education. Dr. Henry has performed in many roles such as an educator, administrator, author, speaker, trainer, consultant, and entrepreneur. His many roles have allowed him to earn several business and educational awards. Dale Henry is currently the founder and president of Your Best Unlimited, a Tennessee based training company where he is able to speak and train over 100,000 professionals and executives each year.

Dr. Henry has traveled all over America bringing smiles and service to all he comes in contact with. His speech in the Campbell Arts Center had everyone laughing, but he also gave the audience two strong points to live their life on. He said, “Never say, ‘It’s not my job’ and never say ‘I wish I had…’” and he furthered his point by providing examples of how he has lived out these principles in his own life. Dr. Henry emphasized that serving others leads one to live a positive lifestyle and that a difference can be made in the world by individuals changing their perspective on life.

Those in attendance left convocation with joy in their hearts and a renewed desire to pursue one of the pillars of the ALC Purpose Road Philosophy – service. The College stresses the importance of not only education but also service to one’s neighbor and God, and like Dr. Dale Henry’s speech suggested, an educated mind is worthless without serving hands.
