Berea, KY – The Alice Lloyd College Running Eagles/Lady Eagles Cross Country teams began their quest to return to the NCCAA Nationals as they opened the 2018 campaign in the competitive Berea College Jamboree over the weekend.

Fresh off a 3rd place finish in the NCCAA DII Nationals last season, the women’s squad opened the day as 60 individual runners from six different schools toed the line for the 2-mile race.

Alice Lloyd finished 4th of the 6 participating teams and was led by senior Brittney Buttrey in a time of 13:20, good enough for 18th place. She was followed by juniors Kacey Troutt and Rachel McCoy, who crossed the line in 26th and 27th place in nearly identical times of 13:47.2 and 13:47.5. The next two finishers were freshman Brooke Vanover (14:43) and sophomore Morgan Arthur (15:11). Freshman Larah Watson (15:50), senior Cheyenne Boggs (16:24), and freshman Abigail Webb (16:30) also gave great effort to the cause.

On the men’s side of things, also fresh off a 3rd place finish in the NCCAA DII Nationals last season, 66 individual runners from seven different schools toed the line for the 3.1-mile race.

Ryan Morris

For ALC, junior Ryan Morris finished in the 20th position to pace the club in a time of 17:08 while freshmen Alex Lewis (17:38) and Ty Reagan (18:44) finished in 30th and 45th place respectively. Junior Noah Stevenson (19:12) and freshman Jacob Bush were next in times of 19:12 and 19:21. Senior Zach Templeton (21:32), junior Dustin Blair (22:14), and freshman Andrew Crawford (28:54) also gave a spirited effort to the cause.

Alice Lloyd will return to action on September 18th as both squads travel to Winchester, Kentucky, to participate in the Run for the Water Barrel at Lykins Park. Start time is set for 4:00 pm.
