Aaron Minor and Reece Ison

The ALC Eagles Golf Team recently played in the Bruins Golf Classic hosted by Bob Jones University. The tournament was played at the Pebble Creek Golf Club in Taylors, South Carolina, on August 27th and 28th. The course was in excellent condition and the weather was hot and humid. The tournament included Bluefield College and Columbia International University, two teams from the powerful Appalachian Athletic Conference of the NAIA, as well as Bob Jones University, one of the strongest NCCAA golf teams.

Eagles golfers struggled to a 370 for the first round. The Eagles were led by team captain Aaron Minor, who shot an 82, followed by Reece Ison with an 83 and Isaiah Penley with an 88. Two freshman golfers, Hayden Halbert and Korey Hanson, playing in their first college tournament, struggled with the first round.

Reece Ison shot the lowest score of the second round with a 76 to finish second in the tournament. Aaron Minor shot a 78 the second round to finish fourth. Aaron and Reece were named to the All-Tournament team, the first time more than one Eagles golfer has made the team. Isaiah Penley shot 81 the second round to finish 14th. Hayden and Korey improved greatly the second round with Korey shooting a 95 and Hayden shooting a 96, showing tremendous resilience and character. The team score for the second round was 330 and the total for the two rounds was 700.

Thanks to Pebble Creek Golf Club and Bob Jones University for their hospitality. They were great hosts for this event.
