On Saturday, May 5th, family and friends gathered in the Campbell Arts Center to watch ALC’s Class of 2018 graduate.
In opening remarks, President Joe Stepp welcomed family and friends to the campus and praised graduates for their outstanding accomplishments. The graduating class was honored with a moving baccalaureate address from Reverend Lawrence Baldridge of Pippa Passes, Kentucky, who has been pastor of Caney Baptist Church since 1964. The commencement address was delivered by Dr. Charles T. Marshall, a native of Lee County, Kentucky. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in 1999 from Alice Lloyd College and went on to the University of Louisville to earn his Masters in Science and Doctorate in Anatomical Science and Neurobiology. Presently, Dr. Marshall is an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, and in 2013 he received the Kingston Award for Excellence in Teaching. In addition to his teaching, he has also published nearly 25 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has presented at multiple national scientific meetings. Dr. Marshall met his wife Kassi at ALC and they have three kids, Adleigh, Taylor, and Kambria, who attend The June Buchannan School.
Following the confirmation of degrees, two graduates were recognized for their academic achievements. Dr. Claude “Lafie” Crum, Academic Dean, presented the salutatorian award to Austin Estridge. The prestigious valedictorian award was given to Brian Clayton Nickles.
In addition to recognizing our graduates, President Stepp also presented two special awards to faculty and staff members. Dr. Lenore Pollard, Professor of Business and Entrepreneurship, was given the Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award, and David Hatfield, ALC Director of Clubs and Intramurals and Assistant Baseball Coach, received the Leadership in Service Award.
