BEREA, KY. –  The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles journeyed to NCAA DIII opponent, Berea College, on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The series was tight throughout and game two went into extra-innings.

GAME 1
BC – 11 | ALC – 2

In game one, the Lady Mountaineers broke away from a one-run lead late to pull out the win.

ALC had a rough start as they fell behind 3-0 in the first inning despite giving up no hits. Three walks, one hit-batter, and one error permitted the runs to all score with two outs.

Alice Lloyd made up a run in the second. Jada Estep was hit by a pitch, then promptly stole both second and third base. She later scored on a single from Emlee Adams to slice the score to 3-1. The hosts made that run back however in their next at-bat on back-to-back doubles.

The Lady Eagles responded in the third as Alexis Napier singled, then stole second. After advancing to third on a grounder, she then scored on a fielder’s choice.

The visitors reduced the score to 4-3 one inning later when Adams reached once more and later scored on a single from Lydia McIntosh. BC earned that run back, however, on a wild pitch.

The score held until the bottom of the sixth when the hosts turned three hits, two walks, and one error into six big runs to put the contest away.

ALC was only outhit 6-4, but could not muster the crucial hit when they most needed it. First baseman Samantha Sturgill and Alexis Napier each recorded 2 hits in the losing cause.

Morgan Albury suffered the loss on the mound. She allowed 6 hits and 10 runs (8 earned) over 5.1 innings, walked 7, and struck out 5 batters.

Jacqui Howard earned the win allowing 2 runs and 8 hits while striking out 7.

GAME 2
BC – 8 | ALC – 7

In game two, BC squeaked out a win in extra innings in a game that saw each club record one big inning and pitching control the remainder of the contest.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when BC scored a run after rapping three singles.

The Lady Eagles looked impressive in the top of the fourth as they stroked five singles and turned them into six big runs. After the dust settled, ALC led 6-1 and appeared in great shape.

Unfortunately, the Mountaineers erased that deficit in their next at-bat. After the first two batters harmlessly popped out, they exploded with six consecutive hits and scored six runs to retake the lead at 7-6.

Solid pitching then took over as neither club was able to record a hit over the next two innings. The game reached the seventh with the visitors down to their final opportunity. In their final chance in regulation, Alice Lloyd responded.

With one out, Samantha Sturgill blasted a double.  She then scored when Jada Estep hit a clutch single to left. Estep was at third with two outs but was left stranded on base.

BC went down harmlessly in the bottom half, and now the game entered extra-innings. Madison Gaines gave the Lady Eagles hope when she led off with a single, but she could not be advanced as the inning ended. Berea then scored in their final at-bat.

ALC was led by Sturgill, Lydia McIntosh, and McKenzie Brewer had 2 hits each.

Jacqui Howard took the win allowing 10 hits and 7 runs.

Kaitlyn Wyatt allowed 8 runs and suffered the loss. The Eagles were outhit 14-10.
