The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles finished the regular portion of the season over the weekend as they hosted NCAA DII opponent, Bluefield State College, on Friday, then followed that up with a road series at Asbury University on Saturday.
April 27
Game 1
BSC – 6 | ALC – 3
PIPPA PASSES, Ky. – In game one, the contest was close throughout before the visitors prevailed.
The visitors scored four in the opening inning and added one in both the fourth and sixth. The hosts answered in the third with a Kaitlyn Clark-Wyatt double and an RBI single from Shelby Blankenship. Blankenship would score in the next inning on a single from Samantha Sturgill.
Trailing 6-2 entering their final at-bat, ALC would look to rally as they scored one run on a fielder’s choice, but they were unable to get any closer.
Sturgill went 3-3 while Clark-Wyatt and Blankenship each added two hits. Alice Lloyd was outhit 14-10.
Emily Day earned the win allowing 10 hits while Clark-Wyatt took the loss giving up 7 runs with 2 strikeouts.
GAME 2
BSC – 5 | ALC – 2
Game two was another nail-biter that went the visitor’s way.
BSC produced two runs in the top of the first and added one apiece in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
ALC scored both of their runs in the bottom half of the fourth as McKenzie Brewer singled and scored on a grounder. Later, Samantha Sturgill reached base and scored on a Morgan Albury hit. Unfortunately, these would be the only two hits of the day for the home club.
Bluefield only outhit their foes 5-2 as Albury suffered the disappointing loss on the mound. She allowed 5 hits with 3 strikeouts. Lexi Carter took the win on the mound allowing 2 hits.
April 28
Game 1
AU – 6 | ALC – 0
WILMORE, Ky. – Asbury’s softball team took both contests by identical 6-0 scores.
In game one, AU scored twice in the first inning on a single, a walk, and two fielders’ choices. In the bottom of the second, the home squad had three hits that led to three runs. Asbury’s final run came in the fourth on a two-out triple and an RBI double.
In the meantime, ALC spread five hits over seven innings but hurt themselves by leaving seven runners stranded on base. They had runners on in every inning but were unable to get the one vital hit when they needed it most.
The hosts only won the hitting battle 6-5 as McKenzie Brewer had 2 hits for the visiting Eagles
Deana Phillips allowed five hits over seven innings and struck out four batters to earn the win on the mound. For ALC, Kaitlyn Clark-Wyatt started the game as she allowed 6 hits and 6 runs with 3 strikeouts.
Game 2
AU – 6 | ALC – 0
AU only outhit Alice Lloyd 7-4, but once again, earned the 6-0 victory.
Asbury scored the game’s first runs in the second inning. They used a bunt hit and an RBI single to give the home team a 2-0 advantage.
AU tacked on a run in both the third the fourth using a squeeze bunt and a single. The final runs of the game came in the sixth on a leadoff single and an RBI double.
In the meantime, ALC spread 4 hits over seven innings and was unable to get the one crucial hit when they needed it most.
Paige Hill threw all seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out four batters to take the win. For ALC, Morgan Albury started the game as she allowed 7 hits and 6 runs with 3 strikeouts.
AU outhit Alice Lloyd 7-4 as Samantha Sturgill had a pair of singles.
