LEXINGTON, KY- The Alice Lloyd College Eagle’s baseball team played the Kentucky State University Thorobreds on Wednesday. The contest was held at Whitaker Bank Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

April 11
KSU – 7 | ALC – 3

The game was a classic pitchers battle early as neither offense could break through for any runs. The Eagles saw their first hit in the fourth when Dalton Cornett doubled, then stole third with two outs. Unfortunately, he was left stranded on base. In the bottom of the inning, KSU rode a single, an error, and another single to go ahead 1-0. At this point, ALC had registered 1 hit while Kentucky State had only made contact 3 times.

The tide turned in the bottom half of the fifth when the Thorobreds spread out three singles and a double and saw five big runs cross the plate. Suddenly, the hosts led 6-0.

Neither squad scored in the sixth, but ALC looked to put a dent in the score in the seventh. Juan Lander, Dalton Cornett, and Chance Cornett all singled in succession, and suddenly the bases were loaded with nobody out. After a strikeout, Wyatt Crisp drew a walk to score the first run and reload the bases. Unfortunately, the next batter hit into a double-play to end the rally.

KSU got the run back in the bottom half on a double and single, and both squads went down in order the next inning. In their last at-bat, the Eagles responded with another Lander single, a Dalton Cornett walk, and a single from Chance Cornett to score Lander. Ethan Osborne then singled to load the bases once more with no outs. Unfortunately, the next hit turned into a double-play ball, and the game ended one batter later on a groundout.

On the mound, Elijah Collins took the win, allowing 4 hits while striking out 10. Broderick Moore suffered the tough loss giving up 9 hits while whiffing 2 batters.

On the day, ALC ended up being outhit 11-7 with two hits apiece from Lander, Dalton Cornett and Chance Cornett.
