WILMORE, KY- The Alice Lloyd College Eagle’s baseball team traveled to Wilmore to face the Asbury University Eagles on Wednesday.

April 18
AU – 18 | ALC – 8

The game could not have started any better for the visiting Eagles as they earned four runs in the opening inning. Juan Lander earned a walk and advanced to second on Isaac Stephens’ single. Next, Dalton Cornett drove in Lander with a single of his own. Two batters later, Peyton Buford blasted a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence.

The hosts earned one run back in the bottom half of the inning and showed a preview of things to come when they produced four runs of their own in the bottom of the third on two hits and went ahead 5-4.

ALC responded to tie the game in their next at-bat when Buford singled and was driven in on Garrett Gay’s double, but the tie was quickly broken in the bottom of the same inning when an Asbury runner scored on a walk.

Alice Lloyd would rebound in the top of the fifth with two runs to regain the lead at 7-6. Lander opened with a double and Dalton Cornett reached on a fielder’s choice. Next, Chance Cornett would double to produce a run, and the second would score later on an error by the hosts.

Trailing 7-6, Asbury would quickly answer once more by immediately producing two runs. They would then go wild in the bottom of the sixth on the strength of eight singles, and sprint to a 16-7 cushion.

ALC tried to respond in the seventh when Stephens singled and was driven in by a Chance Cornett hit, but one run was all they could get. Asbury then promptly plated two more runs to end the night.

On the mound, Josh Owsley started for the host Eagles and pitched four innings, while Bryce Barber went 1.2 innings in relief to record the victory. Tanner Verst was credited with the defeat as Alice Lloyd used seven pitchers in the game. It was a tough night as they combined for 9 walks.

On the day, ALC ended up being outhit 13-9 with two hits apiece from Stephens, Buford, and Chance Cornett.
