CLERMONT, Oh. – The Alice Lloyd College Eagle’s baseball team traveled to the University of Cincinnati -Clermont for a four-game series over the weekend. One contest was called in the third inning due to darkness, so it ended up being a three-game set.

ALC – 11  UCC – 12

The Eagles saw UCC win a high scoring affair in their final at-bat.

Things could not have started better for the visitors as Dalton Cornett homered to right in the first inning. That was followed immediately by a blast to dead center from Chance Cornett. Suddenly, ALC led 2-0. Unfortunately. Clermont got the runs right back on a two-run shot in their first at-bat and added another score to go up 3-2.

Alice Lloyd regained the lead one inning later. Garrett Gay blasted the squad’s third home-run of the game, and a second run scored on a sacrifice fly. Incredibly, UCC’s Stidham then unleashed his second four-bagger of the game in his next at-bat, and the score stood 5-4, Cincinnati, after just two innings.

Once again, the Pippa Passes club responded as they produced five runs in the third and one in the fourth to sprint to a 10-5 cushion. Clermont answered with three more in the fourth, and after the Eagles added one more to their tally in the sixth, UC would tie the score at 11-11 heading into the final inning.

Alice Lloyd did not score in the seventh and was crushed to see the hosts lead runner reach on a walk, and advance to third. He would then score on a one-out sacrifice fly to the outfield.

The visitors scattered 17 hits in the game as GayEthan MartinBristol McGeePeyton Buford, Chance CornettJuan Lander, and Dalton Cornett each had multiple hits. They won the hitting battle 17-11.

The Eagles broke the game open in the second inning. Initially, they scored five runs on four singles, and a couple of walks. With the bases loaded and a 5-4 lead, Ethan Martin crushed a fastball over the right-field wall for a grand slam. Suddenly, the score read 9-4.

UC would slice the score to 9-6, but see two more Alice Lloyd runs cross in the third when Juan Lander doubled and Dalton Cornett walked and scored as well. The hosts would continue to battle, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

On the mound, Jake Weaver earned the victory as he went two innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out one. Jaycob Banks and Broderick Moore entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out in relief. Game Two
ALC – 8 | UCC – 10

The Eagles saw UCC win the rubber match on a homer in their final at-bat.

The visitors scored one in the opening inning on a fielder’s choice before Clermont tied the score on a homer in their first at-bat. The hosts took an early lead in the second inning on a solo homer and added three more in the third on a three-run shot.

Trailing 6-1, Alice Lloyd began to chip away at the deficit as they scored five runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught was led by doubles from Chance Cornett and Ethan Osborne.

The two evenly matched squads would continue to battle, and the score was tied at 8-8 entering the final inning. ALC would get a runner on base in the seventh, but leave him stranded on an inning-ending strikeout. In the bottom half of the inning, UCC would have their opening batter walk. The next batter would, unfortunately, drive a fastball over the right-field fence to seal the Eagles stunning fate.

Jake Moran started the game for ALC. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out one. Kaden Rose took the hard-luck loss, as he surrendered two runs on one hit over one-third of an inning, walking one.
