PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles traveled to Pikeville to face the home-standing UPike Lady Bears on Wednesday. Following are recaps of each game.

GAME 1
UPIKE 10 | Alice Lloyd 0

UPIKE led by a score of only 1-0 in the third inning before the Bears scored nine runs on four hits and three errors. In the big fourth inning, ALC committed several costly errors that permitted the hosts to score 9 big runs.

Alice Lloyd went down in order in the fifth, allowing the Bears to hold onto the lead they needed to end the game early.

Pitcher Hannah Skaggs threw a complete five innings to record the win while giving up just one hit and striking out three without any walks.  Morgan Albury took the loss as she allowed six hits while striking out four.

Pikeville outhit ALC 6-1 as Megan Claypoole’s home run was the only extra-base hit in the game. Jada Estepp had a single for the Eagles.

GAME 2
UPIKE 10 | Alice Lloyd 3

Alice Lloyd struck first. Lydia McIntosh reached base on an error. Three batters later, on a 2-2 count, Jada Estep smashed a home-run to left field. The score stood 2-0.

 The Eagles still led 2-1 heading into the third inning before the hosts drove in two more runs with a series of singles to take its first lead of the game, 3-.2

The visitors tied things up in the fifth as Samantha Sturgill singled and then scored on a triple from Estep.  Her blow knocked Lady Bear pitcher Megan Claypoole out of the contest after scattering four hits for three runs with nine strikeouts and three walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Knotted at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth the Bears’ bats woke up. The big hit was a three-run triple by Kelsey White to put the game on ice.

Hannah Skaggs came in for relief and ended up shutting the Eagles out the rest of the way while allowing just three hits and striking out five batters. Kaitlyn Wyatt took the loss as she allowed 12 hits while striking out 1.

The home squad had 12 hits to ALC’s 7. Estep led the way going 3-4 with a homer and a triple.
