New Albany, IN: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles placed five players in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the NAIA’s 17th ranked Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers 95-81. The River States Conference matchup was held on Tuesday, February 6.

In the first half, the Eagles got out to a nice start as freshman guard Timmy Dalton scored six early points to propel his club to a 10-4 lead at 15:21. The hosts would respond with an 8-0 burst over the next three minutes to take a 12-10 advantage. The Grenadiers would extend their lead to as many as 12 points before a late ALC run reduced the deficit to seven (45-38) at intermission.

In the second half, sparked by the hot-hand from guard Jamie Johnson, the hosts would pull out to a 66-52 cushion with 12:59 remaining in the contest, but the Eagles would answer. When senior guard Austin Crisp completed an old-fashioned three-point play with ten minutes showing, it capped off an 11-4 run, and the score stood 70-63.

Unfortunately, IUS would deliver a knockout punch. The home club would demonstrate why they held their lofty ranking as they went on a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to sprint ahead 82-65. This time, Alice Lloyd was unable to get closer than ten points the remainder of the way.

For ALC (14-10; 7-8 RSC), they were led by sophomore guard Blake Smith with 18 points and 2 blocks. Dalton finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists while sophomore forward Chance Cornett added 16 points. Crisp chipped in with 13 points while freshman guard Noah Young contributed 11 points and 4 steals. Junior forward Simon Christon tied Dalton in the rebound department with 5.

Alice Lloyd connected on 39.1% (25-64) from the field and just 21.1% (4-19) from long range. They hit 79.4% (27-34) from the foul line but added just 25 rebounds. They also had 11 assists and 16 steals.

IUS (17-7; 11-3 RSC) was led by Johnson with 24 points. His club connected on 53.1% (34-64) from the field including 31.6% (6-19) from long range. They hit 80.8% (21-26) from the foul line and added 51 big rebounds, 18 assists, and 6 steals.

ALC returns home on Saturday, February 10, for an important conference showdown with Brescia University. Tipoff is set for 3:00 pm.
