Hiwassee, TN: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles baseball squad journeyed to Tennessee over the weekend for a three-game series against the home-standing Tigers. Below are recaps of each game:

February 22
Game 1
HC-4 | ALC-2

Alice Lloyd watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 4-2 loss to Hiwassee on Thursday. The Tigers scored 3 runs on an error and a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The hosts added an insurance run one inning later to go up 4-0.

The Eagles bounced back in the top of the 5th as center fielder Juan Landor drove in a run with a double and second baseman Austyn Turner scored one with a single. However, the rally fizzled and the hosts were able to hold on from there.

Pitcher Jake Weaver suffered the loss despite allowing only five hits. He struck out 3. Jacob Williamson was the winning pitcher. He allowed 6 hits and struck out 3.

ALC totaled eight hits in the game. Turner (3) and catcher Wyatt Crisp (2) led the way. 

February 23
Game 1
ALC-8 | HC-6

The Eagles grabbed the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the first win of the season.

The hosts took the lead with 1 run in the second and added another 2 innings later. However, the Eagles got one run back when left fielder Zac Salyer homered.

The visitors then exploded with a big 5 run fifth inning to give pitcher Levi Martin the break he needed. Catcher Hayden Martin would drive in two with a double.

The Eagles would add 2 insurance runs to pull ahead 7-2. The Tigers rallied with 3 in the last inning, but pitcher Karson Glancy closed the door in relief.

Salyer had 3 huge hits and 3 RBI’s to lead the way.

Martin earned the pitching victory. He allowed 5 hits and struck out 1.Glancy picked up the save. Sam McMillian suffered the loss. The home club outhit their foes 12-9.

Game 2
HC-4 | ALC-0

The tie-break game went to the hosts in a pitcher’s duel. Neither club could score until the bottom of the fifth when Hiwassee finally broke through with 4 runs. Once the Tigers scored, their fine hurler Bryson Morgan made the runs hold up.

ALC was held to just two singles, one each from Turner and Lander. The Eagles were outhit 8-2.

Will Hubbard took the loss on the mound, allowing 4 runs and 8 hits while striking out 3 batters. Morgan struck out two in four innings of work.
