Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles blistered the nets with a 33 point second quarter, and rolled over the visiting Cincinnati Christian University Lady Eagles 89-75 Tuesday night. The game was the season opener for River States Conference play.

In the opening quarter, the hometown Eagles scored the game’s first 12 points, sparked by senior guard Miranda Wilson, before CCU settled down to go on a 12-4 run of their own. Cincinnati sliced the deficit to 16-12, but the hosts led 18-12 after ten minutes of action.

In the second stanza, Alice Lloyd received excellent balance and solid shooting. Paced by Wilson, along with sophomore forward Jayla Spurlock, they opened up with a dominate 18-5 run to lead 41-18 with 3:07 remaining. They would enter the locker-room leading 51-29.

As the third period began, ALC seemed poised to blow away their opponents and they would quickly increase their advantage to 27 points boosted by freshman guard Haley Hall. The visiting Eagles would play hard and were able to cut into the deficit some, but still trailed the hot-shooting hosts 69-48 with one period remaining.

The last period would see Alice Lloyd maintain their advantage, and they would ice the game for good with contributions from every player.

For the victors (6-1), three players reached double figures. Wilson and Spurlock each had 17 points on identical 6-11 shooting, while Spurlock drained 5-6 from long distance. Hall was right behind with 16 points. Wilson and junior center Emilie Harrell would tie for rebounding honors with 7 apiece, while senior guard Kayla Wilson led the night with 3 steals.

CCU (0-7) was led by forward Baylee Wallace with 30 points.

Alice Lloyd finished shooting 43.4% (33-76) from the field and 34.3% (12-35) from deep while connecting on 64.7% (11-17) from the foul line. They also added 44 rebounds, 15 assists, and 13 steals.

CCU finished shooting 32.1% (25-78) from the floor and 5-20 (25%) from behind the arc. They shot 87% (20-23) from the foul line. They also added 47 rebound, 9 assists, and 11 steals

ALC returns to action this Saturday when they journey to Kokomo, Indiana to face Conference foe, Indiana University- Kokomo at 1pm, then travel to Owensboro on December 8 to battle conference opponent Brescia University at 1pm central. They then return home on Tuesday, December 12th for a big conference showdown with the Indiana University-Southeast Lady Grenadiers at 2:00 pm.
