WILMORE, Ky. — Ohio Christian University claimed the men’s team championship at the 2017 River States Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship held Saturday, Nov. 4 at Asbury (Ky.) University, while Point Park (Pa.) captured the women’s race. As a result, the two squads qualified for the NAIA Cross Country National Championship Nov. 18 at Vancouver, Wash.
For the men, Ohio Christian won the 8K team title with 49 points and had two of the top three runners. Robert Jones of West Virginia Tech was the winner in a time of 27:08.
Alice Lloyd finished 9th of the 12 participating teams and was led by sophomore Ryan Morris who finished 52nd out of 99 total runners in a time of 30:45.
For the women, Point Park had 46 points in the team standings. Point Park junior Anna Shields led the Pioneers to the team championship by placing first individually with a time of 18:22 in the 5,000-meter race.
Alice Lloyd finished 8th of the 12 participating teams and was led by sophomore Kacey Troutt who finished 26th out of 96 total runners in a time of 21:49.
Morris and Troutt were selected by the conference as the schools winners for the Champions of Character Team.
Alice Lloyd will conclude the cross country season Saturday, November 11, as both squads travel to Jackson, Mississippi to participate in the 2017 NCCAA National Cross Country Championships.
