Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles used a stunning a 29-5 second quarter run to break open a tight game and defeat the Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights 100-58 in a matchup played on Tuesday night at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center.

In the opening period, sparked by sophomore forward Jayla Spurlock, ALC jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead with 6:34 remaining. KCU would answer with a 12-2 run of their own to tie things at 14. The clubs then traded buckets before two late free throws put the hosts up 20-19 after one quarter of play.

In the second stanza, Alice Lloyd inched ahead 25-19 with 7:30 remaining. That is when the onslaught began. Over the next five minutes, propelled by three trifectas from senior guard Miranda Wilson, ALC would unleash six bombs during a 18-4 run, and they would take a 49-24 lead into intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles were able to extend the lead to 31 (68-37) after the third quarter and then received solid bench play over the last ten minutes to earn the convincing victory.

For the winners (3-0), five players reached double figures. Savvy senior twin guards Miranda Wilson and Kayla Wilson contributed 19 and 17 points respectively on 7-9 and 7-13 shooting. They also combined to sink 7-11 from deep, while Miranda added 3 assists and 4 steals, and Kayla added game highs of 9 rebounds and 6 assists. For good measure, she added 3 steals of her own.

Also reaching double-digits were junior guard Courtney Vasquez and freshman guard Hope Kelley with 15 and 13 points respectively. Spurlock added 10.

The Lady Knights (1-3) were led by 15 points from guard Faith Conn.

Alice Lloyd finished shooting 47.9% (34-71) from the field and 41.2% (14-34) from deep while connecting on 75% (18-24) from the foul line. They also added 47 rebounds, 15 assists, and 10 steals.

KCU finished shooting 30% (15-50) from the floor and 4-14 % (28.6%) from behind the arc. They shot 77.4% (24-31) from the foul line. They also added 28 rebound, 6 assists, and 7 steals

Alice Lloyd returns home on Thursday when they face the NAIA’s 24th ranked Milligan College Lady Buffaloes. Game time is set for 5:30pm. It will be followed by the men’s contest at 7:30pm.
