Alice Lloyd College students joined their different campus organizations and athletic teams for a night of treats, smiles, and costumes on Halloween night as they hosted the Eighth Annual Trunk-or-Treat. The festivities were held on a chilly but clear October 31st from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

ALC’S Dean of Students and head baseball coach, Scott Cornett, helped organize the event. “Our goal each year in planning this is to get all of our student groups, clubs, organizations, and athletes, involved in a community project. We also wanted to give our young women and men the opportunity to give a little something back to the region that has been so supportive of us. This year was the biggest crowd we have seen so we know it is working.”

Part of the fun of Trunk-or-Treat is seeing all the elaborate displays that the college students put so much time and effort into. The displays are loaded with candy and toys that the students hand out to the kids that dressed up in their wide array of costumes. Many of the students also dressed up in costumes that went along with their displays such as “Alice in Wonderland” and “Superheroes.” When the children came by the booths, the college students took the time to talk with each child and comment on their costumes.

Gary D. Stepp, ALC’s Director of Athletics, added, “I was extremely pleased with the response from our college students. It is encouraging to see how well our student-athletes embrace not only the Purpose Road Philosophy but also the “Champions of Character” philosophy; they went above and beyond what we expected. We love providing this for the community and I believe the hundreds that showed up attest to the fact that it is both worthwhile and appreciated”.

Lashe Mullins brought her children, Gabriel and Haven, and spoke highly of the event. “Trunk-or-Treat on ALC campus is a fantastic time for all the kids. It is nice to come to a clean, family-oriented environment that is both fun and safe. It is also a ‘one-stop shop’ where you can go to all of the booths without having to drive all over the county. The college students also are setting a wonderful example for my kids.”
