Pippa Passes, KY:  The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles volleyball team hosted the University of Pikeville Lady Bears on Monday. The visitors played well and took the match in straight sets, but not before facing a battle from the hosts.

In the opener, the game was close in the early going as ALC only trailed 16-15. However, the Lady Bears closed on a 9-3 run to win 25-18.

In game two, ALC came out determined to even the score. The hosts jumped ahead early and led 20-15, forcing an UPike timeout. The visitors roared out of the TO and went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead. The two squads then battled to the wire before the visitors scored the last point to win 25-23.

In game three, the Bears jumped out to a 20-12 lead before ALC began to claw their way back into contention. The Eagles would never quit and hung in till the end, but Pikeville scored the last point to win 25-18.

For the match, Emily Johnson and Kelsie Jackson tied for the lead in kills with 8 apiece. Hayley Smith paved the way with a game-high 12 digs, while Lindsey Perkins chipped in with 8. Lakyn Wallace dished out 16 assists to lead the team in that department.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Thursday, November 1 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, for the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament. Parings will be announced on Wednesday.
