Wise, VA: The Alice Lloyd women’s and men’s cross country team traveled to Wise, Virginia on Thursday, October 12th to compete in the Stinson Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia-Wise. The weather was exceptionally cooperative as the Eagles swept to victory in both races.

A total of 15 men’s runners and women runner’s from Alice Lloyd, UVa Wise, and the University of Pikeville  comprised the field for the  5K (3.1 mile) women’s race and 8K ( 5 mile) men’s race.

In the women’s meet, the Lady Eagles saw their top five runners all place near the top which earned them a nine point victory. For the event, the Lady Eagles were led once more by sophomore Kacey Troutt who completed the course with a solid time of 22:56 which was good enough for 2nd place.  Juniors Brittney Buttrey and Rachel McCoy crossed the finish just behind in 4th and 7th position with times of 23:05 and 24:30 respectively while the freshmen duo of Morgan Arthur (24:32) and Taylor Bullock (24:36) were the next two overall runners to cross the line and clinch the team win. Junior Cheyenne Boggs gave a good account in a time of 30:43.

In the men’s race, the Eagles garnered a well-earned, fourteen point victory. For the event, the Eagles were paced by their leader, sophomore Ryan Morris, who crossed the line in 2nd position with a time of 34:08. Junior John Driskill finished in third place with a time of 34:27 while freshman Kevin Keathley was close behind in 34:32.  Sophomores Noah Stevenson and Dustin Blair were the race clinchers as they crossed the line in times of 39:18 and 41:09 respectively. Freshmen Noah Smith, Jacob VanHook and Tanner Whitton rounded out the team in 36:01, 39:18 and 41:16.

The next meet will be on Friday October 20th. Both squads will race at Rio Grande, Ohio in the Red Storm Classic. The race begins at 5pm.
