Taylors, SC: The Alice Lloyd Men’s Golf Team opened the 2017-18 season by participating in the Bob Jones University Golf Classic August 27 – 29, 2017 at Pebble Creek Country Club Linkside Course in Taylors, SC.

Pebble Creek consists of a very good hybrid Bermuda-grass. The course was very narrow and the angles on tee shots made hitting fairways and greens on tee shots quite difficult; the layout definitely made the course a very challenging play. Weather conditions were good, other than some wind the first day.

This tournament was a NCCAA event, with Alice Lloyd College, Hiwassee College, Johnson University and Bob Jones University competing. After the rounds were completed, the Eagles finished 2nd of 4, which is our best result to date. Sophomore Aaron Minor led ALC golfers the first day with a solid 82, followed by senior Jared Albright and freshman Reece Ison with matching 87’s. The second day, Eagle golfers were led by freshman Isaiah Penley, who shot a solid 78 (4th best for the day). This impressive round allowed him to lead all ALC golfers with a two day total of 168. Ison followed his first day 87 with an 84 to finish at 171.

Bob Jones University won the tournament with a team score of 615. The boys from Pippa Passes finished second with a total of 690. Kyle Olenchuck of Bob Jones University was the top medalist shooting 71/76 for a +3 score of 147.  Showing signs of good things to come, Penley was the only golfer other than a Bob Jones golfer to break 80. Full results are reported here.

The Eagles next return to the links in the ALC Fall Invitational on Sept. 11/12. It will be held at Stonecrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, KY.
