Rio Grande, Ohio: The Alice Lloyd women’s and men’s cross country team traveled to Rio Grande, Ohio on Saturday, September 23rd to participate in the 47th annual Patty Forgey Invitational Cross Country Meet. The weather was beautiful and sunny but temperatures hovering near 90 degrees made the course quite challenging. A total of 44 men’s runners and 37 women runner’s from  various colleges completed the race for the challenging  5K (3.1 mile) women’s race and 8K (5 mile) men’s race. The humid temperatures definitely had an effect on the runner’s times and several of them were forced to drop out due to cramping.

In the women’s meet, the Lady Eagles were paced by junior Brittney Buttrey who completed the challenging course in 11th place with a time of 24:02.  Junior Rachel McCoy and sophomore Kacey Trout finished their runs with times of 25:08 and 26:29 respectively. Coming in fourth and fifth place were freshman Taylor Bullock (27:55) and junior Cheyenne Boggs in a time of 30:02. For the event, ALC finished in 4th place out of the 6 teams that participated.

In the men’s race, the Eagles were paced by freshman Jacob VanHook who finished with a time of 35:52. Junior John Driskill and sophomore Dustin Blair were next in line with an identical time of 36:29 while freshmen Noah Smith completed the course in 50:15. For the event, six teams sent runners but the weather definitely took a toll as only three of them had enough runners complete the course to qualify as a full squad.

The next meet will be on Thursday, September 28th. Both squads will race at Winchester Kentucky in the Lykins Park Invitational. The race begins at 6 pm.
