PIPPA PASSES: If you weren’t able to watch our ladies play this weekend, you sure missed a great game! The Lady Eagles hosted Johnson University, the seventh-ranked team in the NCCAA.  The match went to the wire for five full sets before the Royals prevailed 3-2.

The competition was stiff, but our squad was fully committed to bringing a great amount of fight to the court. The visitors took the first two games by identical 25-17 scores and looked poised to earn the three game sweep.

Fortunately for the home fans, the combination of sophomore Emily Johnson and freshmen Lakyn Wallace and Kelsie Jackson went on a roll and sparked the home club. Wallace had many pin-point assists which led to Jackson and Johnson landing numerous kill shots. After winning the third set in a heart stopper (25-23), a total team effort led the hosts to a 25-18 victory in game four to set up the deciding game. In game five, Johnson University showed they were deserving of their top ten ranking as they pulled ahead late to win 15-8.

We are very proud of our team and the players who really brought their A-game. Jackson had 15 kills and 41 attacks on the game. Not very far behind was Johnson with 12 kills and 33 attacks and sophomore Samantha Sturgill with 5 kills and 26 attacks. Fellow sophomores Lindsey Perkins and Haley Smith had the most digs with 15, while Wallace had the most assists with a grand total of 39.

The Lady Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Pennsylvania to battle Clark’s Summit University and then go on to New York to face Kings College.
