The Alice Lloyd College Baseball team earned a trip to the NCCAA World Series on Wednesday night as they defeated Bluefield College 6-5 with a ninth-inning walk-off single in the NCCAA Mid-East Region tournament.

Bluefield scored first by bringing in two runs in the second inning off of ALC pitcher Logan Price. By the fifth inning, Bluefield was ahead with a score of 0-5. ALC pitcher Chase Wozniak entered the game and held the Rams at 5 runs.

In the seventh inning, the Eagles were able to place 3 runs on the board, cutting the deficit to 2. Wyatt Crisp led off the ninth inning with a base hit down the right field line. Garret Gay then took a base on balls to put runners on first and second base. Austyn Turner laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over to second and third.  Alan Silva hit a fly ball to right, allowing the third base runner to score the Eagles 4th run of the night. With two outs and a man on second, Newley Burton hit a ball into the left field gap to score the tying run. Ryne Loggins caught the Bluefield infield off guard when he laid a bunt down the third base line. He reached first base safely and moved Burton to second base. Alex White stepped up to bat and hit a shallow fly ball into the hole between second base and the diving Bluefield centerfielder, allowing Burton to reach home, scoring the game-winning run.

The Eagles will travel to Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, next week to compete in the NCCAA World Series. You can find the game pairings and times here.
