The Alice Lloyd College tennis squads hosted the Ohio Christian University Trailblazers in Conference action on Wednesday.

In women’s play, the Lady Eagles won their third match of the year by defeating the Lady Trailblazers 5-4.

In doubles action, the #1 team of Ashley Cornett and Megan Hall earned a big 8-5 victory to start things off on a good note. Senior Peyton Brown and freshman Bailee Brown scrapped in their # 2 doubled match before dropping a 4-8 decision.

In singles play, the senior #,1 Cornett was victorious in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.  Freshman Hall followed up with a #2 straight set victory of her own (7-5, 6-4). Next, #3 freshman Emily Burgin took to the court and vanquished her opponent in convincing fashion (6-1, 6-1). Fellow freshman, #4 Montana Cheek then earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision for the home club.  Senior #5 Peyton Brown played hard in her match before falling 2-6, 0-6.

In men’s play, the Eagles put up a real tussle before eventually succumbing 6-3.

In doubles action, the #2 team of senior David Cavins and freshman Perry Franklin earned a big 8-4 victory.

In singles play, freshman #3 Sol Smith earned the victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Next, Franklin finished off a solid day of play by earning the #4 straight set victory, 6-1, 6-1. The most exciting match of the day was played by #2 singles Kaleb Huber who battled tooth and nail before dropping a third set tie-breaker, 6-4, 4-6, 12-14. Senior Tyler Kilburn showed outstanding courage in #5 singles before falling 0-6, 0-6 while freshman Daniel Guzman fell in the #6 single (0-6, 1-6), but not before battling to the finish.
