Both teams were strong on the mound Tuesday, but the Alice Lloyd College Eagles defeated New River 2-1 in the series opener.

The Eagles captured the lead in the second inning as a fielding error permitted them to score two runs.

That was all pitcher Alec Carter needed as he only allowed five hits in earning the impressive win for the hosts. He went seven innings, giving up one run, five hits, striking out three, and walking zero.

W. Sowers took the loss for New River. He tossed six innings, surrendering two runs, three hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Austyn Turner went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Eagles in hits.

In game two, ALC pitcher Austin Johnson was even more impressive as he tossed a no-hitter and allowed the Eagles to earn a 6-0 victory, and with it, a series sweep.

ALC took an early lead in the first inning when Alan Silva unloaded on a fastball and deposited it over the left-field wall for a homer.

The hosts got plenty of insurance as they scored four runs in the third inning. The big blows delivered were a double by Garret Gay and a double by Bristol McGee.

In the meantime, Johnson was dominating on the mound as he remained stingy with the hits. To get the final out, he struck out L. Garcia and was mobbed by his teammates. For the game, he allowed zero runs on zero hits while striking out five. He walked just 4 batters.

C. Morris took the loss for New River. He went four innings, surrendering six runs, six hits, striking out three, and walking zero.

Silva, Gay, Alex White, McGee, Perry Franklin, and Chris Brown all had one hit to lead Eagles.
