PIPPA PASSES, KY:  The Alice Lloyd College Eagles stayed in it until the end against NAIA top 25 power, University of the Cumberlands, but the visitors pulled away late in a 4-2 victory on Tuesday.

The Cumberland’s Patriots took an early lead in the second inning before the home squad bounced back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the third inning, the Patriots tied things up at two. The game remained knotted up until the top of the sixth when Chase Schmittou singled off of Jake Weaver, driving in the critical go- ahead run.

Logan Hicks earned the win for University of the Cumberland’s. He went two innings, giving up zero runs, four hits, striking out one, and walking zero. Nicholas Purpera recorded the last three outs to earn the save.

Weaver took the loss for Eagles despite tossing an impressive game. He lasted six innings, giving up four runs, six hits, striking out three, and walking zero.

ALC had seven hits in the game. Ronnie Saylor and Newley Burton each collected two hits.

Cumberland’s collected seven hits.
