ALC vs Midway

Game 1

The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a series-opening 9-1 loss to Midway University on Wednesday.

Midway scored on a 2 run home run in the first inning and broke the game open with 4 runs more in the second inning on the strength of a second home run.

Samantha Sturgill went 1-2 on the day and drove in the Eagles run. Alice Lloyd didn’t commit a single error in the field, led by Laura Green who had four chances in the field.

Abby Flaig earned the win for Midway University. She threw two innings, giving up zero runs, three hits, and walking zero. Tiffany Wickline recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Midway University.

Allison Shepard took the loss for the hosts. She pitched five innings, surrendering nine runs, nine hits, and striking out three.

Midway University had nine hits in the game.

Game 2

The home squad suffered a 9-0 setback in the second contest. 

The visitors opened the contest with a quick flurry to take the early lead. An opening inning single by Samantha Sturgill in the first inning was a positive for Alice Lloyd, but she was left stranded on base

Home runs for Midway came when Tiffany Wickline and Kelsey Gravens went back-to-back in the second inning.

Laura Green, Sturgill, and Madisson Minks each collected one hit to lead ALC.

Emily McGlothin earned the win for MU. She threw three innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out six, and walking zero. Abby Flaig recorded the last six outs to earn the save.

Aly Webb took the loss for the Eagles. She tossed five innings, allowing nine runs, 13 hits, striking out seven, and walking one.

ALC vs Bluefield

Game 1

Both teams were impressive on the mound Thursday, but a very good Bluefield Ram club was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a 3-1 victory over the gritty Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles on Thursday.

ALC captured the lead in the first inning but Bluefield managed to even things up at one in the bottom of the third inning.

BU took the lead for good with one run in the fourth inning. Despite several challenges from the plucky visitors, the home club was able to hang on for the win.

Daelyn Hedger earned the win for Bluefield College. She went five innings, allowing one run, one hit, striking out four, and walking zero. Alexandra Bartley recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Bluefield College.

Aly Webb took the hard-luck loss for the Eagles. She tossed six impressive innings, surrendering just three runs on four hits while striking out three.

Elizabeth Prater went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Alice Lloyd in hits.

Game 2

The Alice Lloyd College Eagles ran out of steam and couldn’t recover in an 18-2 loss to Bluefield College on Thursday.

The Rams took an early lead in the first inning but iced the game with nine runs in the second inning.

Baily Garin earned the win for Bluefield. She went five innings, giving up two runs, six hits, and walking one.

Allison Shepard took the loss for Alice Lloyd. She pitched two innings, giving up 11 runs, and nine hits.

Madisson Minks, Rachel Cooper, Laura Green, Shepard, Alexis Napier, and Chloe Johnson each collected one hit for ALC.

BC had 17 hits in the game.
