Game 1

The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles softball team suffered an 8-3 setback to Asbury University on Saturday in the series opener.

Asbury University took an early lead in the second inning. Alex Ledford grounded out, scoring one run.

Alice Lloyd College Eagles scored three runs in the fifth inning. The Eagles’s big inning was driven by a double by Samantha Sturgill and a single by Chloe Johnson.

Deana Phillips earned the win for Asbury. She went seven innings, surrendering three runs, nine hits, and striking out five.  Allison Shepard took the loss for ALC. She threw seven innings, allowing eight runs, nine hits, and striking out three.

The home standing Eagles had nine hits in the game, paced by Sturgill and Madison Haymaker. Sturgill went 3-for-4 on the day with 2 RBI’s while Haymaker had two hits.

Asbury University collected nine hits and didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd College battled hard but fell in game two, 8-3.

The hosts took an early lead in the first inning on a Samantha Sturgill grounder, scoring one run.

Asbury University took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning, and they added three runs in the sixth.

Courtney Patton earned the win for Asbury as she tossed seven innings, surrendering three runs, ten hits, and striking out five. Aly Webb took the loss for ALC. She tossed seven innings, surrendering eight runs, 14 hits, striking out two, and walking one.

The home squad had ten hits in the game as Sturgill, Webb, Elizabeth Prater, and Rachel Cooper each collected multiple hits. Additionally, Sturgill, Prater, and Chloe Johnson each drove in one run.

Asbury University collected 14 hits.
