OWENSBORO, KY – The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles journeyed to Owensboro on Saturday to face the Brescia University Lady Bearcats.  The visitors played solid overall and earned the 63-52 victory in River States Conference play.

In the opening period, the two squads came out firing, but ALC had the upper hand and led 19-16 after ten minutes of action.

In stanza two, defense was the name of the game. The Lady Eagles had trouble scoring as they only put up 9 points in the period. However, they compensated for that by tightening up on defense themselves and only allowed the Lady Bearcats to score 4 points. Alice Lloyd would take a 28-20 lead at intermission.

In the third quarter, the hosts woke up and outscored their counterparts 19-14 to shrink the deficit to just three (42-39) with ten minutes remaining in the contest. The game was anyone’s for the taking.

Fortunately for the visitors, senior forward Amber Shepherd along with junior Bailey O’Bryan and sophomore forward India Hairston-James would step up and help the Lady Eagles pull away down the stretch.

For the victors (10-13; 5-11 RSC), Shepherd led the way with 16 points. She added 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. O’Bryan drained three trifectas and finished with 11 important points. Hairston-James contributed 9 points, 3 steals, a team-high 2 assists, and a game-high 13 rebounds to the effort.

Alice Lloyd shot 33.8% (24-71) from the field and 25.9 % (7-27) from long range. From the charity line, they were 80% (8-10). Additionally, they registered 45 rebounds, 6 assists, and 11 steals.

BU (4-23; 2-14) was paced by Kelsey Kirkpatrick with a game-high 18 points. The ALC defense held them to just 37.8% (17-45) from the field and 38.5 % (5-18) from long range. They sank 61.9% (13-21) from the charity line and also had 33 rebounds, 6 steals, and 10 assists.
