On Saturday, February 4, the Alice Lloyd College Eagles Men’s Basketball team hosted the “Boots for a Cause” game. ALC Head Coach JR Hammond along with visiting Asbury University Head Coach Will Shouse, each wore cowboy boots on the sidelines to raise awareness for two charities that are close to both of their hearts.

Through the Heart is a nonprofit organization that offers support and education for those who have directly or indirectly experienced pregnancy loss. Through their free of charge Comfort Kits Program, TTH has provided more than 1,200 kits filled with personal care items, snacks, and movie rental codes to couples who have recently experienced this devastating tragedy.

All God’s Children, based out of Nicholasville, Kentucky, provides a structured program for both pregnant and parenting teens, as well as their babies/children. The program targets individual and group counseling, parenting and nurturing education, drug education, and early childhood education. AGC also provides an Independent Living program, an Early Childhood Development Center, and a Foster Care program.

Before the matchup, both coaches addressed the large crowd to explain about the organization they had selected and describe the important work each charity does. When the evening was over, the organizers were pleased to report that over $700 was raised. Each coach wished to thank the fans in attendance for their kind generosity.
