Pippa Passes, KY – The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles led most of the first half but were doomed by a poor third quarter and fell 64-58 at the hands of the visiting Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers. The game was a River States Conference matchup held Tuesday night.

ALC opened the game well, jumping ahead 7-2 in the first three minutes before seeing the visitors come back to tie the game. Sparked by senior forward Amber Shepherd, the hosts pulled out by six points before settling for a 14-13 lead after one quarter of action.

The second quarter was also close throughout with the Eagles leading the first part and OCU sprinting back to lead the second part. Shepherd drilled a 28 foot shot at the buzzer but Ohio Christian led 28-25 at intermission.

In the third quarter, Shepherd’s early triple knotted the score at 28. Unfortunately, at this point, OCU went on a 10-0 run as the girls from Caney went cold. The Trailblazers rode this momentum to take a 47-36 lead after three quarters.

In the final stanza, OCU inched ahead 53-39 before the Eagles began to fight back with a furious rally. After Lady Eagle sophomore India Hairston-James scored on a drive with 2:50 remaining, the score stood at 58-54.

The home crowd would get even more excited when ALC would once again stop the visitors on the next series and get the ball back. On their next offensive possession, Alice Lloyd would get two good chances to cut the deficit to two points, but both attempts came up just short. Ohio Christian would then get a clinching bucket and two free throws from guard Bre Hearn to end the threat.

For ALC (6-4; 2-3 RSC) Shepherd entered the matchup needing 14 points to reach 1,000 for her career. She shot 7-13 from the floor and finished with a game-high 18 points. James added 13 points while junior guard Miranda Wilson contributed 12 points and 3 steals. Junior forward Sara Robinson led the team in rebounds with 8 while junior guard Kayla Wilson had 2 assists.

Alice Lloyd connected on a chilly 37.9% (22-58) from the field and 27.3% (6-22) from long range. They attempted 12 free throws, hitting 8 (66.7%) and also had 34 rebounds, 7 steals, 5 assists, and 3 blocks.

The Trailblazers (10-6; 1-3 RSC) were led by Erinn Bailey with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

They connected on a frosty 33.9% (21-62) from the field and 31.6% (6-19) from long range. They attempted 26 free throws, hitting 16 (61.5%) and also had 45 rebounds, 4 steals, 6 assists, and 2 blocks.

The Lady Eagles return to action this weekend when they face the 18th ranked Indiana University East Red Wolves in conference play. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm.
