PIPPA PASSES, KY: Four players reached double figures as the home standing Alice Lloyd Eagles defeated the Warren Wilson College Owls 99-79 on Saturday, January 20th.
In the opening half, the Eagles came out with red-hot shooting against the Owls pressure defense. The hosts scored the first 10 points of the contest paced by the junior tandem of Jake Allen and Austin Crisp. They would extend their advantage to 29-10 with 8:13 remaining after a hoop from senior forward Mason Pack.
Warren Wilson reduced the deficit to eight (41-33) with 3:53 showing before Alice Lloyd closed the stanza on a 14-9 run to take a 55-42 lead at intermission.
In the second half, ALC would come out well and jump ahead by over twenty (68-47) after a jumper from point guard Crisp with 14:40 showing. The home squad would then keep the throttle open and extend their margin to as much as 28 points and they would not allow the Owls to get closer than 17 the remainder of the night.
For the victors (6-14), Crisp led the way with 18 points and 5 assists. He was followed closely by Allen with 16 points, and the forward completed the double-double as he hauled down 10 big rebounds. Freshman guard Blake Smith and Pack chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Sophomores Ryan House, Sean Ross, and freshman Connor Hoskins each contributed 8 points.
WWC (5-14) was led by a game-high 26 points from guard Michael Pomeroy.
For the game, the winners shot a solid 54% (34-63) including 9-19 from three-point land. They were also 66.7 % (22-33) from the foul line. They also had 49 rebounds, 18 assists, and 10 steals.
The feisty Owls shot 35.9% (23-64) including 10-34 from three-point land. They were also 67.6 % (23-34) from the foul line. They also had 26 rebounds, 6 assists, and 11 steals.
Alice Lloyd returns to action Saturday, January 21st when they face the Welch College Flames at 3:00 pm. The Eagles then hit the road for the next two weeks.
