PIPPA PASSES, Ky:  Senior forward Amber Shepherd tossed in 18 of her 21 points in the second half to lead the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles to an exciting 77-65 home victory over the visiting Brescia Lady Bearcats on Saturday afternoon in the River States Conference Women’s Basketball Game of the Week.

In the opening stanza, ALC would jump out to a 12-7 lead following a triple from junior guard Miranda Wilson at the 4:58 mark. However, sparked by sophomore guard Catherine Dunn, the Bearcats would close on an 8-3 spurt and knot the score at 15-15 by quarters end.

Over the next 5:30, the visitors would continue their stingy defense, holding the Eagles to just two points. When the dust cleared, they led 22-17 and definitely had all the momentum.

Alice Lloyd bounced back with a flurry over the next two minutes and scored 9 consecutive points to leap ahead once more. Naturally, a late run from the Bearcats set the count 28 apiece at intermission.

In the second half, inspired by 11 points from Shepherd, the hosts came out of the locker-room on fire. ALC would play their best ball of the night and roll out an impressive 27- 17 run to finally gain some breathing room. The visitors trailed 57-51 at the buzzer.

With ten minutes remaining, Brescia refused to roll over. Led by freshman guard Becca Summers, BU would claw their way back and tie the score once more at 60. The game appeared headed for a buzzer beater with 7:21 remaining.

Just when it appeared that the visitor’s hard work was going to lead them to an important road conference win, Alice Lloyd turned once more to Shepherd. Over the next 4:30, she would combine with junior workhorse Sara Robinson to score nine consecutive points. After another defensive stop, junior guard Kayla Wilson drained a bucket at the 2:58 mark. The scoreboard now showed the Eagles ahead 71-60, and the scrappy Bearcats were finally forced to surrender.

For ALC (5-3; 1-2 RSC), Shepherd led the way with 21 points. This includes 4-8 from behind the arc and 9-10 from the charity stripe. Robinson added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Miranda Wilson tossed in 13 points while freshman Jayla Spurlock contributed 10. Kayla Wilson dished off a game-high 7 assists.

For Brescia, (1-11; 0-4 RSC) Somers swished in 21 points and completed the double-double with a game- high 11 boards. Dunn added 14 points.

Overall, the victors shot 40.6% (26-64; 12-33 threes) from the field and 76.5% (13-17) from the free throw line, while grabbing 37 boards, handing out 21 assists and grabbing 5 steals.

BU shot 30.9% (21-68; 4-17 threes) from the floor and 79.2% (19-24) from the free throw line. They added 46 rebounds,9 assists, and 4 steals.
