U.S. News and World Report rankings were released this week and Alice Lloyd College has again captured high rankings in multiple categories. ALC is ranked fifth in the nation for least amount of average debt. The College is ranked twelfth among national liberal arts colleges for alumni giving and fifteenth among all colleges nationally.
Alice Lloyd College’s impressive 6% acceptance rate equals that of top universities such as Harvard and Columbia, and ties for the rank of the second best acceptance rate in the nation.
U.S. News and World Report evaluates institutions based on several different criteria including academic quality and financial statistics. President Joe Stepp had this to say when asked about ALC’s rankings, “We’re honored that ALC is again listed among the top colleges in the nation. Our college is blessed to continue to provide opportunities for the brightest and best of Appalachia.”
Since the survey data collection period this spring, Alice Lloyd College continues to excel. This fall, a record 6,460 applicants competed for only 221 spots in the freshman class. Alice Lloyd College’s tuition guarantee to members of the 108-county service area, along with other scholarship opportunities, is a huge attraction for applicants.
ALC graduates have always been very involved and supportive, and this year was no exception. The College had a record number of 47.2% of alumni donate to their alma mater during the 2015-2016 academic year.
Nearly a century ago, Mrs. Lloyd set out to educate the youth of Appalachia. The College continues that mission today by keeping the cost of an ALC education affordable so that students, regardless of financial ability, can attend without incurring enormous debt.
