The Alice Lloyd women’s and men’s cross country team traveled to Berea, KY on Saturday, September 17th to participate in the Berea College Invitational race. A very strong field was in attendance, and the day was exceptionally nice.

A total of 113 men’s runners and 108 women runner’s from various colleges comprised the field for the challenging 3.1 mile race and 5 mile race. The course featured several small hills, a wooded section, and even a water obstacle that required everyone to run through the creek that was on campus.

The Lady Eagles were paced by sophomore Brittney Buttrey (Whitesburg, KY) who completed the course with a time of 22:21.  Freshman Kacey Trout (Whitesburg, KY) and sophomore Elly Fulks (Ironton, OH) finished their run with times of 24:49 and 28:52 respectively.

The Eagles were paced by freshmen Nick Galloway (Berea, KY) who completed the course with a time of 31:42. Fellow freshmen Dustin Blair and Ryan Morris (Lee, VA) finished in a time of 32:41 and 32:43 respectively. Sophomore John Driskill (Jackson, KY), who is returning from a nagging injury, crossed the line in 33:54 while freshman Noah Stephenson (Wise, VA) and sophomore Zach Templeton (Weber City, TN), stopped the timer in 34:47 and 40:13 each.

With her impressive time, Buttrey has already qualified for the NCCAA Nationals which will be held November 12th in Jackson, Mississippi. The entire men’s team, by virtue of their solid combined team score, has also qualified as well.

The next meet will be on Saturday, October 11th. Both squads will race at the University of Pikeville. The race begins at 6:00 pm.
