The first ALC Spring Invitational Golf Tournament was held at Battlefield Golf Club in Richmond, KY on Monday, April 4th and Tuesday, April 5th. Conditions were seasonal! It was warmer, windy and a bit of rain on Monday and sunny and cold on Tuesday. Course conditions were very dry as we have had a very dry spring so far. The main issue was that the greens had not recovered from being plugged 3 weeks earlier, and played very difficult. The fairways played well, as the firm ground with little grass made it easy for better players to make full contact with the ball (no grass between the club and the ball), which gives player maximum control over the shot. Davenport University took the team championship shooting 311/306 for a two round total of 617. Oakland City University took second place with a 321/318 for 628. Jorge Benitez of Davenport University was the medalist, shooting 72/73 for the two round to edge Taylor Suggs of Cincinnati Christian University who shot 75/72 for a 147. The top 5, all-tournament team also included Kevin Kim of Berea College who shot 76 both rounds for 152 to finish third and Mitchell Garrison of Davenport University who shot 79/76 for 155 to finish fourth and Mitchell Wandell shot 79/77 for 156 and fifth place. Zach Hancock lead Eagles golfers with 87/83 for 170. As a team, the Eagles were 354/346 for a total of 700, good for 6th of 6.
